Lumalier Completes ANSI/ASHRAE Standard 185.1

Lumalier has recently completed the testing for in-duct products for ANSI/ASHRAE Standard 185.1, method of testing UV-C lights for use in air-handling units or air ducts to inactivate airborne microorganisms.

What does this mean?

Lumalier has completed the background work to meet this testing Standard to properly and accurately design for IRMM for ASHRAE Standard 241.

What products are included?

The testing applies to Lumalier’s full in-duct product line: AR Series, ADPL Series, PRU Series, FCU Series, and VFCU Series. Each in-duct product is designed for specific types of HVAC systems, offering a broad range of applications.

Why is this important?

The purpose of ASHRAE Standard 241-2023, Control of Infectious Aerosols, is to establish minimum requirements for control of infectious aerosols to reduce risk of disease transmission in the occupiable space in new buildings, existing buildings, and major renovations to existing buildings, including requirements for both outdoor air system and air cleaning system design, installation, commissioning, operation, and maintenance.

Research, Testing, and Standards

As a proud member of ASHRAE, our team has been committed to involvement in ASHRAE committee work. Members of our team have attended meetings on these important standards and guidelines:

  • TC 2.9
  • SSPC 62.1 and 62.2
  • SSPC 241
  • GPC 37
  • SPC185

In addition to having over 60 years of industry experience, by meeting the testing standards and having the appropriate resources for performing calculations, design, engineering, and manufacturing, Lumalier can meet project requirements for the assessment, design, and implementation of UVGI as facility managers, building owners, businesses, and others look for cost-effective and efficient ways to improve their indoor air quality (IAQ).

Process: From Assessment to Implementation

Assessment: Lumalier works with clients to evaluate the current HVAC systems and determine the requirements to achieve the desired pathogen reduction goals.

Design: Lumalier’s in-house engineering and sales experts work from the assessment to customize in-duct products to achieve the desired goals for the space. The product line is customizable to have different lamp configurations and

Implementation: Once the products are designed and manufactured, Lumalier works with install professionals to ensure the systems are placed correctly for the HVAC system.

C-GUVMP Certification from NALMCO

In addition to completing the testing, Lumalier’s Subject Matter Expert (S.M.E.) has recently earned the C-GUVMP certification from NALMCO, the interNational Association of Lighting Management Companies. The training and certification program is focused on Germicidal Ultraviolet-C (UV-C) and training professionals responsible for the design, installation, and maintenance of germicidal UV-C luminaires.
